Why us

The best early learning experience

Our most important function at Village Nursery School is to ensure that each child’s first school experience is a joyful and enriching one. Above all, we hope to impart a love of school and learning for all our students.

VNS operates for 36 weeks each academic year and generally follows the Harvard public school calendar, with a few modifications. We begin in September and end in June.

For Your Unique Child

Passionate teachers

Small class sizes are led by highly qualified teachers, many of whom have been with the school 5, 10, or even 15 or more years

Creative Spaces

Our spaces are bright, happy spaces in which children can grow and learn. Our outdoor space includes a playground, Nature Nook, and access to the Harvard Conservation Trail System.

Two's

Our Two Year Old Program is designed to provide an opportunity for 2 year old’s to experience the same high quality early childhood educational experiences as preschoolers, while maintaining appropriate activities for twos.

Our 2.9 Program is designed for children who miss the cut-off for preschool, but who are ready to be introduced to a school setting.

Three's

Three year old programs are often a child’s first introduction to school. Emphasis is on learning to navigate a classroom setting and to be part of a group. Sensory, fine motor, beginning math and science activities are offered for children to explore. Basic social and self-help skills are regularly practiced.

Young Fours & Pre-K

Our Young Fours Program is for children with fall birthdays who miss the kindergarten age requirement. Not quite threes and not quite Pre-K, this curriculum lands in the middle of the two. Children are ready for more sophisticated activities and an introduction to the skills that will be focused on in Pre-K, while still maintaining the importance of learning through play in preschool.

Pre-K children are building on the knowledge and skills gained in their three year old programs. Emphasis is on kindergarten readiness skills while still maintaining the value of learning through play in preschool.
